A House-owner’s Rights – Compulsory Purchase
It is common these days for a house-owner to lose his home because the local authority wants to pull it down to make way far a new housing estate or road scheme. Many government bodies and state corporations have powers of compulsory purchase, and there is seldom much a private owner can do against them once the machinery is set in motion. Where several house-owners are similarly affected, they can join together and start a publicity campaign against the scheme as a whole.
(They may be able to contend, as part of their campaign at the public enquiry, that public money is being misspent.)
